Red Zebra Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) - This beauty was initially discovered by Jeff Dawson in his California fields and first listed in the 2003 Seed Savers Exchange catalogue. It is an open-pollinated cross with Green Zebra and another unknown parent. Striking medium sized round fruits are deep red with bright, orange lightning bolt-like striping. A slightly acidic flavoured fruit on very prolific indeterminate vines. We acquired our seed from a tomato enthusiast near Yarmouth, NS, who purchased his initial seeds from SSE quite a few years ago. We are quite pleased with their response on our field trials and particularly in the greenhouse environment.
Indeterminate growth.
73 days to maturity.
25 seeds per packet.
Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in warm soil. Transplant seedlings into 1‑inch cells or 3–4 inch pots at the 1–2 leaf stage. Harden off plants for 4–5 days once the risk of frost has passed. Transplant outdoors when day and night temperatures consistently stay above 10 °C. Provide support such as cages or stakes to keep plants tidy and accessible at harvest.
