Snowbird Zinnia (Zinnia elegans) Another family heirloom passed along form the west to east, starting in BC and now finally at our farm here in Nova Scotia after 40 years. Snowbird Zinnia, aka Polar Bear has been a popular choice in gardens for several generations, listed in seed catalogues as far back as the 1870’s. Flowers are creamy-white, double petaled, maturing to 3-4” in diameter. At full maturity the inner disk has a very interesting golden sparkle of stars surrounding it! Stems of this variety are very upright and sturdy making an excellent cut flower. Blooms throughout the season starting quite early in the summer. A very showy annual that is sometimes mistaken for Dahlias with the upright growing habit. A real pleasure to grow this heirloom gem!
