Cosmos, Sea Shells (Cosmos bipinnatus) How about creating the perfect balance in your flower garden with this wonderful ancient flowering species. Cosmos has a unique history dating back well before the 16th century when Spanish sailors brought large quantities of seed from Mexico back to Madrid. This seed selection comes from my grandmother Katie's farmyard. Tube-like seashell petals range from pastel pink to rose, fuchsia, and white, attracting birds, bees, and butterflies. Fern like leaves make this species a wonderful texture in dried flower arrangements. Cosmos is a tall growing annual that can reach heights of 5 ft. Profuse flowering will occur readily on less than ideal soils, making it a great xeriscape plant as well. An easy plant to cultivate and pleasing to all, a must add to your garden landscape.
