Costoluto Genovese Italian Heirloom Tomato (Blue Mountain Strain) (Solanum lycopersicum) We have had numerous requests by many customers asking us if we offer this variety. Our first seed source was donated to us in 2021 but did not meet expectations after trials. The second source came to us from a customer near Owen Sound, ON who had been growing this variety for culinary purposes in her gardens for years and acquired the seeds from her father in the late 1980’s. He had brought the seeds back to Ontario from a visit to Syracuse, NY in the late 1960’s. After trialing the seeds in 2023 and again in 2024, we were very pleased with the heirloom lineage and overall results. We are excited to finally offer this variety for the first time! Costoluto Genovese is an old Italian heirloom that has been popular in Italy since the early 1800’s. Seeds were brought to NA in the 1890’s and readily sold by a few east coast and mid-west seed companies by the turn of the century. Fruits are disc-like and quite attractive with deep heirloom ribbing. A great tomato that is ideal for both fresh eating and preserves. Highly flavourful and deep red fruits born on indeterminate vines. Our Blue Mountain Strain tends to have stockier plant development and highly notable pleating and ribbing on fruits.
