Pale Red Maltese Cross (Lychnis chalcedonica var. carnea) This is a most interesting heirloom Maltese Cross variety with references dating back to the early 1800’s where it is referred to as Pink Maltese Cross, Pale Red Nonesuch and Mock Sweet William. Also currently marketed in North America as ‘Dusky Pink' and ‘Dawn Sky’. A beautiful early mid-summer bloomer with large clusters of salmon-pink flowers. A hummingbird favourite and an excellent cut flower specimen. Plant height averages 36 - 40 inches.

Growing Information: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost or direct sow in spring after frost danger. Sow seeds on the soil surface and press lightly. Keep soil moist under bright light. Seeds germinate in 14–21 days.
Transplant or thin to 30–40 cm apart in full sun. Prefers well-drained soil and will benefit from staking as it grows tall.
