Dmytro’s Ukrainian Dill (Anethum graveolens) - This old heirloom variety of dill was shared among the Byrka and Guryn families when they first arrived in Canada in the early 1900s. Its origins trace back to the province of Galicia in western Ukraine, and it has been grown in our family ever since. This particular seed selection comes from plants growing on the original farm behind what remained of Grandpa Dmytro Byrka’s tractor shed. Stressing the plants with heat or drought can enhance their flavour. For pickling, it’s best to plant dill and cucumbers at the same time.
