Dwarf Curled Scotch Kale (Brassica oleracea acephala) This old Scottish heirloom kale dates back to 1865, originally known as Dwarf Curlies. Plants have compact growth habit but boast delicate, succulent, tightly curled leaves. A very easy kale to grow and perfect for  containers or smaller gardens  given its compact nature. This cold hardy kale survived our (Zone 5a) Nova Scotia winters with ease, even with little snow cover in 2019. Planting for fall and winter harvest, but also produces well into the summer months from early spring sowing.

60 days to maturity

100 seeds per packet

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost or direct sow as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow seeds ½ cm (¼ in) deep. Thin seedlings to 30–45 cm (12–18 in) apart, with rows spaced 45–60 cm (18–24 in). Kale prefers full sun and rich, well-drained soil. Keep soil evenly moist throughout the growing season. Harvest outer leaves as needed. Leaves are sweetest after a light frost.
