Gatterman Heirloom Poppy (Papaver somniferum) - A beautiful heirloom ornamental poppy with spectacular, fully double, dark pink flowers resembling delicate chrysanthemums. Brought to North America from Germany by the Gatterman family in the 1800s, this treasured family variety has been passed down through generations. Its abundant, finely layered petals create large, showy blooms above distinctive blue-green foliage. Growing approximately 60-90 cm (24-36") tall, plants flower in early to midsummer and readily self-seed when allowed to mature. A striking old-fashioned flower that adds colour, texture and a touch of garden history to flower beds and borders.

**All parts of poppy plants are poisonous. Large amounts ingested can be toxic.
Growing Information: Direct sow outdoors in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. Scatter seeds on the surface of finely prepared soil and press lightly into place. Do not bury seeds, as light helps them germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist until seedlings emerge, usually in 7–28 days. Thin seedlings to 15–20 cm (6–8") apart. Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately once mature. Leave some flowers to develop ornamental seed pods or remove spent flowers to limit self-seeding. Hardy annual.
