Fordhook refers to the farm in which the Burpee Seed company performed its research from the 1750’s until 1981. Thick greenish-white 2 inch stalks bare leaves up to 10 inches in width at 2-3 feet above ground on this giant. Fordhook does well in the summer heat and is a very reliable provider. Planting instructions: Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep and 1 inch apart, thinning to 2-3 inches apart after germination. Leave 12-18 inches between rows. Begin seeding when soil temperature is 7-10 degrees Celsius. Swiss Chard - continue sowing every two weeks until early summer for a continuous supply.
