German Giant Radish 'Stuttgart Red' (Raphanus sativus) A very old heirloom variety that appears to be referred to as the Red Stuttgart Giant radish in seed catalogue's of the late 1800's. It is most likely that this is the same lineage to the Stuttgart Red Giant with a very similar growth habit and root shape. Roots will size up to 4 inches at full-late maturity, although sweetest flavour is derived from a harvest a few days before this stage. Despite the large size, this radish does not become woody or soft at full maturity and retains its' peppery crispness. This is a late bolting variety.
