Globe Thistle (Echinops ritro) - A striking, hardy perennial known for its distinctive, perfectly rounded steel-blue flower heads and attractive silvery-green foliage. The unusual globe-shaped blooms are made up of numerous tiny flowers, creating a spiky, architectural appearance that adds wonderful texture and contrast to the garden. Growing approximately 3–4 feet tall, Globe Thistle produces sturdy, upright stems topped with brilliant blue flower globes from midsummer into early fall. Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators, it is an excellent addition to pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, and perennial borders. The long-lasting flowers are particularly well suited to cutting and drying, retaining their shape and colour in dried floral arrangements. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, Globe Thistle is drought tolerant once established and performs well even in relatively poor soils. An easy-care perennial that brings distinctive form, colour, and lasting interest to the garden.
