Golden California Wonder Sweet Pepper

California Golden Wonder Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum) - First appearing in seed catalogues in the early 1920s, this heirloom pepper traces its roots to Central and South America and was brought to Europe by explorers such as Christopher Columbus in the late 16th century. The golden version of California Wonder produces smooth, thick-walled fruits with a distinct blunt end. Fruits reach approximately 5″ × 4.5″ and ripen from green to a rich golden yellow.

California Golden Wonder is very sweet and mild, ideal for northern growing regions. Plants are prolific, producing abundant large fruits that are perfect for fresh eating, roasting, stuffing, and general kitchen use. Our trials since 2018 have consistently yielded excellent results, with fruit ready to harvest around 63–73 days from transplant.

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before your last frost date. Sow ¼″ deep in a warm seed-starting mix and keep soil consistently moist and warm for best germination. Transplant seedlings into cell packs or small pots at the 1–2 leaf stage. Harden off plants for 4–5 days once frost risk has passed. Transplant outdoors in full sun when day and night temperatures remain consistently above 10 °C, spacing plants 18–24″ apart in well-drained soil.
