Greek Mullein (Verbascum olympicum) Not to be confused with common mullein which is its own species, Greek Mullein is native to the Balkan region of South-eastern Europe, particularly found at higher elevations. Medicinal usage is very similar to common mullein where both are well known for their antiviral and antibacterial properties. Plants tend to grow 4-6 feet in height yielding a large showy multi-branched flower spike of bright yellow blooms by late summer. A few of our plants have actually reached the 7’ mark. Considered a soft perennial above Zone 5, more commonly a biennial in latitudes above 48. Will attract a wide range of pollinators.

Planting InformationThis is a biennial, therefore the flower forms a rosette in the first year followed by florals in year two. Seeds can be sown in late fall (surface sown) or must undergo cold stratification for 4-6 weeks in refrigeration if sown in spring. Mullein seeds require light to germinate. Sow in late spring on soil surface and tamp. Keep evenly moist and in the light until germination, which is usually in a few days. Transplant spacing plants 2 feet apart.
