Scabiosa - Imperial Mix (Scabiosa atropurpurea) - Also known as the 'Pincushion Flower', this annual produces showy blooms of full double round flowers in rose, purple, pink, lavender, burgundy, and white. Flowers are persistent from mid-summer until frost and should be dead-headed regularly. Plants grow from 30-40 inches tall. Scabiosa flowers are heavy nectar producers making them very popular amongst pollinators. Scabiosa thrives in full sun and in well-drained soils making it an ideal xeriscape plant. It is also a popular choice in cut flower arrangements.

Growing Information: Start this annual indoors 6 - 8 weeks before last frost. Scabiosa seeds may benefit from a brief cold period. They require light to germinate. Sow seeds shallow and barely cover with soil mix. Space plants 8 -12 inches apart and in a sunny location. In mild winter areas, seeds can be sown in the autumn. Germinates in 10-12 days. Seeds can be sown outdoors in the late fall to satisfy cold period required for spring germination.
