Katie's Oxheart Tomato

Solanaceae

Regular price $4.95 $4.95 Sale

Katie’s Oxheart Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Originally purchased by my Grandmother Katie in the 1930’s from the Livingston Seed Catalogue, at that time they were called ‘Giant Oxheart’. She was so pleased with these tomatoes that she saved the seeds for decades, passing them down to her children. My mother passed these seeds along to me only a few years ago. True to type, they are definitely a keeper! Most descendants of my Grandmother Katie still grow these Oxheart tomatoes, since they are a terrific slicing tomato with few seeds. Indeterminate - heavy vine and foliage requires some staking for this heavy producer of pink to red heart-shaped fruits. Five generations later we are still growing these Oxheart's and are excited to offer this open pollinated strain for the first time.

Indeterminate Growth

82 days to maturity

25 seeds per packet

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep and keep soil warm. Transplant into 1 inch cells or 2 inch pots at 1-2 leaf stage. Staking tomatoes (indeterminate) should be transplanted into 3-4 inch pots. Harden off plants for 4-5 days after risk of frost has passed, then transport outdoors.
