Marine Heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens) An old-fashioned Victorian heirloom variety known for its vanilla-cherry scented blooms. Heliotrope is still utilized in the perfume industry in parts of Europe. The striking plants have dark blue-green leaves and 4 to 5 inch panicles of tiny velvety-purple blossoms. An excellent container species that is sturdy and somewhat compact, reaching heights of no more than 12-14 inches.

50 seeds per packet $4.45

Growing Instructions: Start seeds 8-9 weeks before last spring frost. Sow seeds 1 inch apart in a container of moist seed starting mix. Press down lightly, but do not cover as heliotrope seeds need light to germinate. Expect germination in 14-21 days. Keep warm and moist, providing ample light. Seedlings can be transplanted into individual pots to become well-established. Harden off and transplant to well-drained soils in a sunny location. Heliotrope will tolerate some afternoon shade.
