Mbombo Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) As if they were discovered down the yellow Brick Road, far away in an Emerald City, Mbombo bean seeds are quite spectacular gem-like treasures. Reportedly originating from Northern Kenya, and named for the Kuba tribal god, Mbombo. The beans are said to bring prosperity to both the soils and the people who cultivate them. Grown as a bush bean but do exhibit pole characteristics with slight trellising required. Pods of up to 6 inches and very abundant. Can be harvested young and green as snap beans or left to dry on plants for use in soups. This bean performed very well in our 2025 drought here in the Annapolis Valley. A heat-tolerant producer of high protein content beans.
