Mother Mary's Pie Melon (Cucumis melo) Gifted to SSE by a Minnesota family, this heirloom melon had been grown within the family for over three generations, named after the donor's mother who used this melon in her apple pies. Very similar to the Peach Melon of the early 1900's. Small yellow round fruits with white flesh that are slightly sweet but fragrant and traditionally used to make apple pies by replacing half of the apples with melon. Best to pick fruit while it is still firm. A highly productive, early maturing fruit that can be peeled like an apple. We have tried this melon in our apple pies and agree with Mary! A very unique variety, indeed! LIMITED QUANTITIES for 2022.
