Mourning Widow (Black Widow, Dusky Crane Flower) - (Geranium phaeum)  This dark maroon flowered variety of Crane Flower was discovered by Elizabeth Strangeman near the village of Samabor, Croatia. This herbaceous perennial is the most commonly cultivated variety noticeable in gardens across North America. Often referred to as 'Dusky Crane’s Bill', this geranium species thrives in the shade and in the understory of wild spaces. Pure stands can often be found in woodland areas, not surprising since the plant is native to the meadows and woodlands of Eurasia. Plants reach 18-30 inches in height and bloom in late spring to summer, typically May to August in most regions. A very easy variety to look after, requiring little maintenance and grows in a wide variety of soil types. Seed germination is slow with all Geranium phaeum species so you must be patient!

30 seeds per packet $4.45

Planting Instructions: For best results, sow into a good soil-based compost or growing medium. Cover the seeds lightly to approximately their own depth. Direct sowing outdoors in fall allows a natural germination, as many seeds have built-in dormancy. All Geranium phaeum forms have very slow germination and can take a full season to reproduce.
