Naughty Marietta Marigold (Tagetes patula) - These gorgeous French marigolds are a mid-century introduction, first offered by the Atlee Burpee Co. in 1947. Obviously named after the character in the 1935 movie 'Naughty Marietta’ featuring actress Jeanette MacDonald who plays a Princess desperate to avoid an arranged marriage by switching identities with her maid Marietta. Striking yellow and maroon single flowers will light up your garden from summer to late fall. A truly hardy species that is quite drought tolerant, ideal for containers, and will attract a diverse number of pollinators. Like all French marigolds, they are edible, exhibiting a very strong earthy flavour equal to their pungent scent.
