Prussian Blue Pea (Pisum sativum) -This heirloom pea is well documented in Colonial literature of the early 1800’s with specific reference to the plantation at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Its origins may in fact date back to the early 1700’s from the Rhineland of Germany where it was known as the 'Green Deutsch Pea'. It is also listed in a few different seed catalogues during the mid to late late 1850’s as the Royal Prussian Pea, Sutton Seeds of England being one of the earliest distributors. Three foot plants produce white flowers followed by plump pods containing 7-8 attractive blue-green coloured peas. This is one of our mid-late season peas, maturing in 67-70 days from planting. Most commonly used as a dry soup pea but can also be eaten fresh. Limited quantities for 2022.
