Red Burgundy Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) 'Red Burgundy' okra, also sold as 'Burgundy' by some seed companies, is a very attractive plant that reaches four to five feet in height. Also function as an ornamental with its hibiscus-like, creamy-yellow coloured flowers that develop into red-burgundy coloured pods. All pods should be harvested at three to four inches in length, but will remain tender to about six inches. Pods will turn green when cooked.

Direct seed after danger of frost has past. Sow 2 inches apart, 1/2 inch deep into warm soil. Thin plants to 16 inches apart once established. Seeds can be started indoors 4-5 weeks before last spring frost. Keep seed trays warm and do not disturb roots when transplanting.
