Rusty Foxglove - 'Gigantea Gelber Herold' (Digitalis ferruginea) - A gorgeous biennial foxglove variety that produces a basal rosette of medium green, oblong leaves in the first year from seed. Amber coloured bell-shaped flowers with a dash of deep rusty orange. 'Ferruginea' are borne in the second year on 2-3 foot long racemes rising from terminal spires for a total plant height nearing 6 feet. A very busy plant amongst the pollinating population between late spring and mid summer, this elegant species is easy to grow and low maintenance. This was one of our busiest buzzing flower species in 2024 including regular visits from hummingbirds.
