Salad King Endive (Cichorium endiva) A large growing endive variety introduced in the 1950’s, which grows prolifically, resists bolting, tip burn, and hardy to moderate frosts. Salad King can be harvested as a baby leaf but as it matures, it vigorously produces larger, finely cut dark green leaves that are slow to bolt. Outer leaves can be tied to blanch a 2 foot heart.

Growing Instructions: Seeds can be started indoors or sown directly outdoors in spring 2-4 weeks before the last frost. For fall crops, sow 6-8 weeks before the expected first frost. Sow ¼ inch deep, 1-2 inches apart and cover with light soil. Thin to 8 inches apart.
