Scarlet Runner Bean (Phaseolus coccineus) This climbing bean is most often grown as an ornamental for the brilliant scarlet blossoms that attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. Requires trellises, fences or poles to train and will easily grow to 10 feet or more. Can be eaten either as a snap at 70 days or a shell at 95 days. The seeds are spectacular with streaks of purple riding over black. A delightful surprise for those that open up the pods for the first time.
