Zarnitsa Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) - The name Zarnitsa translates to “summer lightning,” a befitting title for this early‑maturing Russian heirloom. Originating near Moscow in the early 1900s, this variety is prized for its early production of bright red fruits averaging 2–3 inches in size. Plants have a semi‑indeterminate growth habit, with shorter vines that are easy to manage, stake if desired or grow in ground culture. Tomatoes are resistant to cracking and begin fruiting early in the season, often alongside other early favourites like Early Anne.

Semi-indeterminate growth.

65-70 days to maturity.

25 seeds per packet.

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep and keep soil warm. Transplant into 1 inch cells or 2-3 inch pots at 1-2 leaf stage.  Harden off plants for 4-5 days after risk of frost has passed, then transport outdoors when day and night temperatures consistently stay above 10°C.
